The famous writer Joseph Conrad put his finger on this long ago, saying: “You shall judge a man by his foes as well as by his friends.”

Conrad’s wisdom comes to mind as my fellow Pennsylvanians in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District are soon to elect our member of Congress.
The 10th has been well — make that very well — represented by GOP Rep. Scott Perry. The congressman has had — and continues to have — a remarkable career as a leader in business, the military, and politics.
Whether working in the mechanical contracting field, local government, or serving as a (now-retired) brigadier general in the Army National Guard or, since 2012, serving as one of Pennsylvania’s members of the U.S. House, he has consistently been a leader.
In the House, he has, notably, at one point served as the chairman of the conservative GOP House Freedom Caucus.
To say the least, Perry is utterly unafraid of directly addressing controversial issues that others may be afraid to address. Whether the issue is claims of election fraud in Pennsylvania or in other states, charges that the Obama administration had been collaborating with ISIS, opposing a federal abortion ban in spite of his staunch support for pro-life issues (but believing the issue should be left to the states), or opposing liberal climate change policies, Rep. Perry never shrinks from doing his due diligence on the substance of the issue he is addressing and then taking a forthright position and doing so whether or not his stance is opposed by Republican colleagues or, of course, Democrats.
Perry’s opponent in the 2026 congressional elections is, again, Democrat Janelle Stelson. A now-former television journalist, Stelson was the Democrats’ losing 2024 nominee against Perry. Unsurprisingly, she is borrowing again from what has apparently become the standard approach of Trump-era Democrats: her website attacks Perry for being a Trump ally.
But in addition, this time voters in the 10th District have been receiving a mass mailing flyer identified as coming from the “Pennsylvania Democratic Party and Authorized By Janelle Stelson.” The flyer headlines directly that Stelson is supporting abortion. Abortion is, in fact, the only issue Stelson’s flyer covers and supports.

Predictably, Democrat Stelson has drawn support from those who call themselves Republicans but who, by their Stelson support, illustrate in vivid terms that they are really nothing more than liberals masquerading as Republicans. It is safe to say that this is an ancient political trick.
As someone who worked for President Reagan, I have seen this routine before. In the Reagan days, there were various Republicans who stepped forward to oppose him on the grounds that he wasn’t really a Republican. Suffice it to say that voters didn’t buy this. This time around, it’s Trump-opposing Republicans who oppose the president for this, that, or another reason. And in this case, some have moved to support Democrat Stelson over a genuine conservative leader in Scott Perry.
As President Reagan once famously said to Jimmy Carter — with a tell-tale shake of the head in a debate — “Well, there you go again.”
Exactly.
So. Here goes another attempt by liberal Pennsylvania Democrats to defeat conservative Republican Scott Perry with the aid of those pretending to be Republicans but who are not. And, in the more traditional fashion, running a liberal Democrat candidate to take on the task of defeating Republican Perry.
One can reasonably expect that, once again, a pronounced pro-abortion candidate who has apparently decided to make abortion the central issue of her campaign will fail in the heart of conservative central Pennsylvania. This is, after all, where the fiercely pro-life Democrat Gov. Bob Casey was twice elected.
But right now in October of 2026, the 10th District is swarming with “Friends of Scott Perry” lawn signs. And our mailboxes are receiving staunchly pro-abortion campaign flyers from the Pennsylvania Democrat Party and “authorized by Janelle Stelson.”
