Protests and riots in Paris on 17 October 2026. Demonstrators gathered around Place de la République amid tear gas; cars and shared bikes were set on fire on Boulevard Voltaire and extinguished by the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP); shops were looted, including a Chanel boutique in Le Marais at night.
In Revolutionary France, the guillotine was a privilege reserved for the nobility, though the nobles themselves would surely have preferred a different sort of privilege. Before the Revolution, commoners were simply hanged. But when equality was extended to criminal law, decapitation became the fate of everyone, neatly encapsulating the peculiar humanitarian sensibility of the revolutionaries in their determined pursuit of equality. But beheading people is an expensive business, especially when you are unleashing the Terror and planning to remove the heads of more than a thousand citizens every week. Consider that executioners were paid around $700, and that the axes of the time, as has been documented, lost their edge far too quickly. Whether this was due to the executioners’ incompetence or the stubborn resilience of their victims’ necks, I cannot say. The revolutionaries therefore turned to the famous invention of Joseph-Ignace Guillotin: the guillotine, which P. G. Wodehouse described as the only remedy for grey hair.

Ceremonies were important to the Revolution, including those surrounding executions. With the guillotine, the traditional execution ritual, which included the condemned man kissing a crucifix, speaking his final words, and receiving a blessing, was discarded. In its place, they created a new spectacle with a distinctly revolutionary, or perhaps even satanic, character. The revolutionaries’ favourite moment was the sprinkling of blood. When Louis XVI was guillotined (the first person executed under the new ceremonial rules), the onlookers would rush towards the scaffold, hoping to be touched by a stray drop of blood during the three ritualistic sprinklings of the crowd that brought the revolutionary ceremony to a close.
Before long, they had developed a taste for the guillotine, and anyone who opposed the “general will” became a candidate for the scaffold. Although there could be hundreds of executions a day, they were never carried out in groups, because the guillotine ceremony itself was intended to make it clear to the people that what was being decapitated was not merely a man, but his individuality, which they regarded as the greatest enemy of equality.
During the Terror, the revolutionaries turned the guillotine into the arm of a god, the government of the new order, for the elimination of impurities. Such was their adoration that litanies modelled on the Rosary were composed in its honour, with verses such as “Saint Guillotine, terror of the aristocrats, protect us.” I find it particularly nauseating that, as has been documented, some French people gave their children miniature guillotines and little birds so that they could play at carrying out capital executions.
What emerged from the Revolution and the guillotine … is … the goddess Reason, Mother Nature, the extermination of Christians, the most atrocious form of secularism, and the poisoned monster of rationalism.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Revolution. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Left. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is France, the great laboratory for pernicious ideas since the 18th century. (RELATED: Why All Leftism Is Now Far Left)
What emerged from the Revolution and the guillotine, described by Robespierre as “the sword that shines in the hands of the heroes of liberty,” is all too well known: the goddess Reason, Mother Nature, the extermination of Christians, the most atrocious form of secularism, and the poisoned monster of rationalism. But that was a long time ago… or was it? (RELATED: Europe’s Hard Left at Its Most Dangerous)

I do not know how to answer such a pertinent question. I have just received some videos from a friend in Paris and, to tell the truth, France has never recovered from the Terror or from the most dangerous ideas of the Revolution. It is true that less blood was shed for some centuries, but it is also true that this was preceded by the extermination of Christians and aristocrats, whose descendants the revolutionaries cut off at the root, effectively forcing the population to undergo a lobotomy and worship the government as if it were a pre-Christian deity. Yet France has spent many years enduring a silent (and silenced!) shedding of blood, once again condoned, encouraged and protected by the government: that of Islamism. Countless knife attacks, altercations, and acts of street violence have been attributed by the government to mental illness, while the ethnic origins of the perpetrators have repeatedly been concealed to avoid admitting that the “Great Replacement” theory in France is no longer a theory, but a fact. The Republic, led by idiots such as Hollande and Macron, has supported this process, with the invaluable assistance of the imbeciles in the Brussels elite and Soros’s global networks.
Today, with France rendered unrecognisable, to the point where it is no longer possible to find French people in France, regardless of what their official documents might say, the politically dead Left has pressed the nuclear button: setting the country ablaze to forestall a possible shift to a right-wing government. If the revolutionary Left once sought to forge an alliance between the people, intellectuals and a collection of mentally deranged individuals with intellectual pretensions, today it has turned to something far more practical: Islamic infiltration. I find it touching to read the romanticised accounts in the American progressive press of what is happening in France, as though Marianne herself, wearing her Phrygian cap, had taken to the streets alongside her own kind to defend the people against capitalist oppression. Hahaha! What utter scoundrels! What contempt they must have for their own readers! France is in flames, and not a single French person is throwing a Molotov cocktail. It is Islamist militias that are using France as a laboratory to blow up the heart of Europe first, and the entire Western world afterwards. Does anyone seriously believe that the violent far-left street protests and demonstrations now emerging in Italy and Spain, following France’s lead, are mere coincidences? Europe is finally turning to the right, and the Left, alongside Europe’s worst enemy, Islamism, will wage war to stop it. (RELATED: Welcome to the Far Right)
Thank goodness they have the courageous, clear-sighted, bold and intelligent Emmanuel Macron to face them. His first move was to flee the country, probably after wetting himself. One final thought? Only Christianity will save France. Only Christianity will save Europe. Today, as yesterday.
