I’m not going to try to call this column a Five Quick Things. Usually these entries fail the title test, and this one will fail egregiously. It isn’t a Five Quick Things; in fact, done correctly, it’s a book.

It might be a book I’ll write. There is so much here which ought to be said that it could well be a really good book.
I’m calling the entries that follow the Five Black Pills, but they’re really more like separate buckets of discontent with the pills floating at the top. The items I’m highlighting in each of the columns to follow in this space are stand-ins and microcosms for larger issues that I’ll reference, which probably deserve larger treatment. And while those buckets can be said to be distinct, there are definite relationships between them. So as you read the items in this series, perhaps recognize that what I’m highlighting within these entries are simply the things most current among many possible options.
With that said, we can begin with today’s installment
Feminism, and Its Corrosive Effect on Both Men and Women
Melissa and I did a Spectacle Podcast segment this week which touched on this a bit — namely, the explosion of social media car-confessional videos and other rants, mostly by women, caterwauling about the loss of chivalry. The tendency, when those hit TikTok or the other apps, is for them to generate a ratio of people from the manosphere declaring that chivalry is dead and feminism killed it. (RELATED: The Spectacle Ep. 470: Don’t Be a Jerk: Bring Back Social Etiquette!)
Those ratioers drive Melissa insane, and she makes a really good point — which is that what people refer to as chivalry is really simple etiquette, which we’re losing. And now it seems that we’re developing a consensus among single men that the loss of etiquette is necessary and desirable because it’s the only proper response to feminism. That drives her even more up the wall.
What I’ll say to this is there is more truth to be found on Melissa’s side of the argument, and to follow etiquette and be chivalrous even in the face of snarling feminists is nevertheless good and warranted, and it isn’t “simp” behavior, because you cannot control how others act around you, but you can control how you act around others. It’s not about them, it’s about you.
But I would also say to those women who are appalled by the manosphere and some of its worst denizens — the Andrew Tates of the world, for example — that this didn’t come out of nowhere. It is an equal and opposite reaction to Third Wave feminism. (RELATED: The Cult of Andrew Tate: Modernity’s ‘Men Without Chests’)
I’m not going to link it. But on Thursday I saw one of those not-really-viral Facebook posts which seem ubiquitous on my feed now — somebody posts rage-bait and then boosts it, and naturally I get it inflicted on me — which told a feminist-fantasy story about all of the adult men in the world disappearing at once, and how the women were able to take over and how they decided on a better way to raise the boys who were left so they’d be better men than the ones who vanished.
We call it the ghetto. You want to see a matriarchy, that’s it. Go and study it.
For whatever reason, I didn’t scroll past this thing. My immediate thought was that the worst men in society tend to be the ones who didn’t have fathers, and somehow turning all the boys fatherless was supposed to make for a world without wars and rape and sexism?
Good luck with that.
Actually, we already have such a world. We call it the ghetto. You want to see a matriarchy, that’s it. Go and study it. Make sure you’re out of there by sunset, though.

In the ghetto, there aren’t many fathers around, and there are very few good men. There are lots of criminals; there are layabout men who sit on stoops in the middle of workdays; there are men who sponge off the women of the ghetto. There are some men who work jobs, but few of them are good enough at those jobs to move up and make a real living. And the women are seldom, if ever, married when they bear children. They’re married to the government; that’s where the sustenance of the ghetto comes from.
It’s not that the people of certain ethnicities who populate the ghetto aren’t capable of better. The opposite is true, and that’s why the ghetto is the ghetto. If we’re going to apply race to it and assume we’re talking about black people, because in lots of places we are, it isn’t that black men can’t do better. In fact, black men do. They’re just not in the ghetto. The men good enough to escape the matriarchy of the ghetto and lead their own families lead those families into the middle-class neighborhoods.
And middle-class America is what has been denigrated by feminists as the “patriarchy” for decades.
What we need is more of the patriarchy. Record levels of single men, and record levels of mental illness and left-wing politics among single women, will turn more and more of America into the ghetto. There will still be sex, but it leads to fewer and fewer babies being born, and as it’s women who determine who and when there is sex, you will have the matriarchy.
And it will be the ghetto.
The way out is stronger men. The way out is to insist that feminists stand down in the face of a culturally-enforced patriarchy (or “patriarchy,” because what feminists call a patriarchy is really just a functional, traditional American culture in which women still have a great deal of power and influence).
Meaning, men, don’t refuse to hold the door for a woman. Refusing to perform that small service is a surrender to the feminists, a capitulation to the notion that they’ve destroyed the world men built. Instead, hold that door with a smile. Mostly you’ll get a smile back. Even better, sometimes you’ll trigger a feminist into acting the ass and becoming the villain, and therein lies the real victory.
Feminism has not killed traditional American society, at least not yet, and it will only succeed in doing so if those whom it will make victims of are willing to surrender to it. So don’t.
I could do much, much more with this segment, including diving into the muck-pit that is family law. Maybe that’s for the book version.
