So.
This time it’s the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
With war raging — still! — in the Middle East. Here’s just one current sample headline, this one from Fox News: “Iran-backed terror group’s latest territorial grab threatens second global shipping chokepoint,” with the subtitle, “The advance puts Iran-backed forces closer to controlling a second critical chokepoint as oil prices surge past $100 a barrel.”

The Fox story reports:
Iran-backed Houthi forces seized Yemen’s strategic port city of Mocha on Thursday and pushed toward positions overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, opening a potentially dangerous new front for global trade as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely constrained.
The advance threatens the southern gateway to the Red Sea just as Saudi Arabia has increasingly relied on that route to bypass Hormuz — putting pressure on critical shipping lanes on both sides of the Arabian Peninsula and raising the risk of further disruptions to oil and commercial traffic through a key global trade choke point.
“Now you have Iran on one side of the Arabian Peninsula controlling Hormuz, and now the Houthis controlling Bab el-Mandeb on the other side of the peninsula,” Hisham Al-Omeisy, senior Yemen advisor at the European Institute of Peace, told Fox News Digital. “Which basically is going to drive prices — oil prices, goods and everything else — up exponentially.”
All of which is a long way of saying the world of radical Islam is very much still targeting the Western world. With America at the very top of the list of Western targets. And this targeting of the West includes any method the leaders of radical Islam believe contributes to their desired victory.
It can mean targeting the Western economies, as seen with the targeting of oil tankers trying to navigate the Strait of Hormuz. But it can also mean, as Americans and the Western world learned the hard way on 9/11, physically targeting Western countries on their own turf. (RELATED: The Questions We Must Ask About Islam)
The question that has been asked in all of this is “how is this war to be ended?”
Sadly, there is no answer at hand.
The hard — very hard — fact of life here is that radical Islamists — and important to say, not every follower of Islam is a Western-hating radical — are laser-focused on destroying Western civilization. That, obviously, is also very much including Jews. That would be Jews anywhere in the world, whether the entire State of Israel or the attendees of a local synagogue. And the target isn’t just America. European leaders are, suffice it to say, very much aware of this targeting of their own countries. There is one example after another out there spotlighting these types of attacks on European nations.
Samples include the 2004 Madrid train bombings, killing almost 200 and ranked by authorities as Europe’s deadliest terrorist attack. In 2005, Islamic radicals targeted London’s Underground trains. Two of those bombers released a videotape on their actions, saying, in part, as follows:

I and thousands like me are forsaking everything for what we believe. Our drive and motivation doesn’t come from tangible commodities that this world has to offer. Our religion is Islam, obedience to the one true God and following the footsteps of the final prophet messenger. Your democratically-elected governments continuously perpetuate atrocities against my people all over the world. And your support of them makes you directly responsible, just as I am directly responsible for protecting and avenging my Muslim brothers and sisters. Until we feel security you will be our targets and until you stop the bombing, gassing, imprisonment and torture of my people, we will not stop this fight. We are at war and I am a soldier. Now you too will taste the reality of this situation.
…
I myself, I myself, I make dua (pray) to Allah … to raise me amongst those whom I love like the prophets, the messengers, the martyrs and today’s heroes like our beloved Sheikh Osama bin Laden, Dr Ayman al-Zawahri and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and all the other brothers and sisters that are fighting in the … of this cause.
A year later, in 2006, another video statement was released, saying a version of the same thing.
And on and on… and on and on… goes this belief system as expressed by various radical Islamic leaders.
The ongoing question is obvious. How does the West respond to this continuous declared war on itself? It quite obviously doesn’t matter whether the target is America, any European nation, or, for that matter, any other nation that has no substantial population of radical Islamists.
So the obvious question? Is the West and every nation in it doomed to eternal war with radical Islam?
It is safe to say that as the West marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Western leaders have no solution to this question.
Which is to say, until an agreed-upon solution is found and at hand, the West and the countries in it are doomed to a literal eternity of being targeted with war.
As the Western world slowly heads into the fall and winter and the slew of annual Christmas celebrations around the globe, one hopes that somewhere along the line the answer to this question is finally found.

With the world agreeing with the line from that old song by, yes, the Beatles.
That would be: “All we are saying is give peace a chance.”
