Super hot. These are the most painful climatic conditions I have encountered since moving to Los Angeles in 1976. Each day this week has been brutally humid and hot. Really, really bad. But because I grew up in Washington, D.C. and Silver Spring, Maryland, I am accustomed to heat and humidity. One of the many small jobs I had on Harvey Road was washing cars, and another was mowing grass. They were brutal in Washington, D.C., and Silver Spring summers. So, I am bearing up in the heat.

However, I am besieged by other problems. Because of a sluggish residential real estate market, I am having trouble liquidating some of my property. This is truly horrible. I cannot say I am really suffering. My wife and I have plenty to eat, and our air conditioning works fine, and my swimming pool is a jewel. I swim the backstroke for an hour at a time. As I do, I stare at my towering palm trees. They are often surrounded by swarms of butterflies of many different colors. The pool is a pristine blue, and the palm fronds are a lustrous green. Quite a sight. Paradise.
Too many of my friends are unwell, though. And my wife, my goddess, is also unwell. We are planning to move to our home in Malibu. She loves to lie in bed and look at the ocean and the hummingbirds hovering around the jacarandas. That’s why we are planning to relocate to Malibu. She’s not a surfer. She’s my goddess. She can and does stare at the beauty of nature. If she stops staring, the world ends.
What’s coming next?
Speaking of the end of the world, a few days ago, as I was browsing through the infinite treasures of streaming, I came upon a series about “girl soldiers,” as they are called online, usually not “women soldiers.” The best of them were from North Korea. Yes, that North Korea. The girl soldiers were INCREDIBLY good. Like Der Führer’s SS men, they marched a PERFECT goose step. They also were able to do complex slow marching maneuvers, goose-stepping inches behind their compatriots. They generally carried gleaming submachine guns and sometimes full-sized rifles with scarily long and sharp bayonets — again, right behind their fellow women soldiers.

They could also do sexy marching with high-heeled boots, short skirts going up high on their thighs, kicking to reveal stretches of North Korean flesh, and a LOT of makeup. They also could twirl about and wink at the cameras.
There were also much larger numbers of “girl soldiers” from Red China. They too were brilliantly good at their tasks. They, too, wore heavy doses of makeup, especially vivid red lipsticks. They, too, were sexy as hell. Goose-steppers from the east. Sex machines.
Questions: why do these “girl soldiers” from North Korea and China imitate the movements of fascist Germany? Why are they so good at it?
