On Monday, Aug. 11, President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Delivering Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations for Americans.” The order directed the Department of Health and Human Services to accelerate vaccine research in the United States. During the signing, Trump noted, “For far too long, America has recommended more childhood vaccines than any peer nation, including more than twice as many vaccine doses as some European countries.” The president went on to state that the normal sequence for vaccinating infants is deeply flawed: “In many cases, we are requiring 72 jabs for our beautiful, healthy, lovely, delicate, little children, including giving the hepatitis B shot to infants and newborns on top of many other vaccinations.”

This executive order differs from a previous presidential memorandum issued on Dec. 5, 2025, which initiated vaccine research, and from an executive order issued on May 29, 2026, that reaffirmed the administration’s policy to “support maximal parental choice over childhood vaccines.”
In contrast, this executive order publicizes initial findings to the American public and recommends 11 core vaccines, including the MMR vaccine. However, the administration advises that MMR doses be given as three separate shots at three different times. Trump reported research claiming, “Together, there could be a possibility that… [the MMR vaccines] are quite lethal, and separately, it looks like they are not at all lethal but very effective.”
Additionally, the order requires the Secretary of HHS to present plans to the president on options for administering the core vaccines, the optimal sequence for child vaccinations, and the benefit/risk profiles of specific vaccines, all within 90 days of the order’s signing. The order also requires the attorney general to continue to “take appropriate measures to further meritorious legal actions,” specifically those that challenge parental rights.

Senior Advisor Stephen Miller stated during the signing, “The pressure from the pharmaceutical industry and from aspects of the medical industry to pump your kids full of shots days after birth with no understanding of the long-term consequences has been a medical travesty.” Some of these travesties could include serious and devastating diagnoses. To learn more about these tragedies, the NIH has set up an “Autism Data Science Initiative,” which seeks to answer the question, “What is the cause of autism?” According to Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, autism is a “complicated biological phenomenon,” and genetic factors cannot solely account for the large rise in childhood autism cases. “There must be some other environmental factors involved,” Bhattacharya stated.
Despite outside criticism, administration officials maintain this executive order is not centered on anti-vaccine propaganda, but rather on allowing American parents the freedom and space to choose what is right for their children. As HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said, the executive order and HHS research efforts around vaccines seek to “preserve access to vaccines, strengthen safety monitoring, expand research, give doctors and parents better information, and restore informed consent and parental choice to their rightful place in American medicine.”
