Ossoff Plays the Sexist Card - National Logistics Post

In the end, the truth outs.

In this case, the truth is the apparent instinctive, sexist nature of Georgia Senate Democrat candidate Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Ossoff is running for re-election in Georgia. In that capacity, he decided to attack President Trump. Fair enough — this is election season, and Trump is doing well — so if you’re a Democrat opponent, you attack. Got it. But Ossoff just couldn’t resist going over the top and taking a shot at Trump aide Natalie Harp. Said the senator of the president and his aide: “He doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the emir of Qatar.”

The GOP Senate candidate, Rep. Mike Collins, responded quickly in defending Harp, saying this of Ossoff’s attack: “It’s sexist, misogynist. This guy has a problem, the way he has treated women, and it’s all coming out in the open now.” (RELATED: Georgia Republicans Face Another Winnable Race to Lose)

Bingo.

The unmentioned problem here is the reality of life in the U.S. Senate. As someone who spent time as a senior aide to a senator, I can vouch for the reality that a senator’s daily life is flooded with all kinds of folks. And that female staffers, like their male counterparts, can and do play a large and necessary role in a senator’s conduct of his or her office.

Not to mention that women play a serious role in staffing the White House and a president’s administration.

Suffice to say, the last thing a Senate staffer needs is a sexist senator making their life and job difficult because the senator has a problem with female staffers.

Not to mention the same goes in spades for a senator’s constituents. A senator’s office is flooded daily with constituents bringing problems big or small to the senator’s office. Constituents seeking help in resolving whatever the problem. The problem can range from a constituent’s elder relative needing to resolve a Social Security problem to the CEO of a large in-state corporation needing help dealing with a possible federal government contract. And that’s before the senator has to deal with serious matters of foreign and national security policy. No matter the problem, there is no room for sexism on the part of the senator in getting that problem resolved.

But Ossoff clearly doesn’t get it. Which makes his sexist targeting of a Trump female aide all the more notable. The Fox story reported: “Harp rose to prominence in 2019 after crediting Trump’s Right to Try Act with helping her access experimental treatment for a rare bone cancer. She later joined Trump’s 2020 campaign and became a special assistant to the president.”

In other words, Harp is a decidedly accomplished and serious presidential aide who, considering her successful battle against bone cancer, has been through hell and back.

Safe to say, Ossoff’s attack on Trump aide Harp did not go unnoticed. Fox News headlined: “Dem’s ‘sexist’ remark against cancer survivor provokes Republican to go scorched earth: ‘Guy’s got a problem,’” with the subtitle, “Georgia Senate race heats up after Ossoff’s comment about cancer survivor Natalie Harp drew conservative backlash.”

Rep. Collins went on to pointedly say:

There is a clear problem with him and females, and he needs to explain that. He needs to tell us why he is attacking a young lady like Natalie Harp personally like that,” he said. “I mean, what he is a trust-fund kid who’s never had a job, who’s out there denigrating women, and the vulgarity that he is insinuating and talking about this young lady, Natalie Harp, who has overcome so many odds. It’s just unbecoming.

Unbecoming indeed.

What Ossoff has displayed, notably in what appears to be an instinctive, almost unconscious fashion, is a problem dealing with strong women, with his reaction being to instinctively play the sexist card.

And since he has done this with a senior aide to a president? The obvious question is who, among the hundreds of female Senate staffers that populate Capitol Hill — not to mention female senators and House members — are vulnerable to this kind of behavior from Ossoff as they go about their taxpayer-funded government business?

Whatever else may be the case, it is yet another in a seemingly endless line of male senior government officials who find themselves unable or unwilling to restrain themselves when dealing with strong women.

Ask now-former California Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell.
