Back in March, the bill passed with surprising speed in the House. It currently awaits Gov. Kathy Hochul\u2019s signature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationallogisticspost.com\/?p=392\">The Left\u2019s War on Tips Is Making Everyone Worse Off<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The legislation would also change the words \u201cpaternity\u201d and \u201cfiliation\u201d to the term \u201cparentage\u201d to allow for more \u201cinclusivity.\u201d Under the justification section of his bill, sponsor state Sen. Luis Richard Sepulveda <\/span><span>writes<\/span><span>, \u201cAdvocates urge for the need to modernize, catching up with evolving definitions of parenthood.\u201d He<\/span> <span>argues<\/span><span> that in today\u2019s society, the words \u201cmother\u201d and \u201cfather\u201d are outdated since \u201cCourts have recognized how non-biological, non-adoptive parents can be treated as legal parents in certain circumstances.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This refers to a case in which the New York Supreme Court<\/span> <span>ruled<\/span><span> that \u201ca person who is not a biological or adoptive parent may obtain standing to petition for custody or visitation.\u201d This case, called <\/span><i><span>Matter of Brooke S.B. v. Elizabeth A.C.C.<\/span><\/i><span>, involved two women in a homosexual relationship. In 2008, the respondent decided with the petitioner to go through artificial insemination to get pregnant. She gave birth to a baby boy a year later. The couple jointly raised the child until 2010, when they ended their relationship. The petitioner sought court assistance after the respondent denied her visitation rights to meet with the child. Similarly, this bill will allow for continued protection for same-sex couples with children by changing the vocabulary of the law. Under this new terminology, biological and adoptive ties will be treated as equal to the rights of nonbiological relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a<\/span>\u00a0<span>Fox News interview<\/span><span>, New York Minority Leader Edward Ra said that this bill is taking up valuable time that could be used to advance other priorities for New Yorkers. \u201cWe don\u2019t think it does anything to make New York more affordable on a permanent basis, and that\u2019s what New Yorkers are talking about, that\u2019s what they care about,\u201d he said. \u201cThey want to know what we\u2019re doing to make their lives more affordable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationallogisticspost.com\/?p=385\">New Winners in France<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Gov.
