Stay Tuned.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, the Democratic Party nominee in the race, James Talarico, prefers his lentils, quinoa, and the other red meats on his plate lean.\u00a0<strong>(RELATED: The Incredibly, Unacceptably Weird James Talarico)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fact-checkers, a literal sort who may nitpick the above line to report lentils and quinoa as something other than red meat, run interference for Talarico by insisting that he, like Texans David Von Erich, Sam Houston, and, well, Meat Loaf, eats meat and any suggestion to the contrary ranks as false as Pee-wee Herman\u2019s belief in a basement in the Alamo.\u00a0<strong>(RELATED: James Talarico: The Wolf in Sunday\u2019s Clothing)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But Republicans did not invent this out of thin air. The divinity master\u2019s degree holder said in 2021 during a debate on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives, \u201cGod is nonbinary.\u201d\u00a0<strong>(RELATED: James Talarico: The Wolf in Sunday\u2019s Clothing)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Democrat nominee, in a debate over transgenders in female sports, touted the idea of sex as a \u201cspectrum\u201d and \u201cambiguous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bill seems to think there are two,\u201d Talarico said of the sexes. \u201cThe one thing I want us to all be aware of, recognize, is that modern science obviously recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes. Talarico explained, \u201cPaxton is intentionally clipping my cringey comments to distract from his career of corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes, and one senses that Paxton\u2019s campaign soon parses the \u201cmy cringey comments\u201d acknowledgment for yet another ad against Talarico.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Ken Paxton brings baggage to the Texas U.S. Senate race. So does Democrat James Talarico. The latter\u2019s baggage requires not merely a check-in at the counter but a hefty fee.<\/p>\n<p>If what comes out of your mouth on camera compels you to put a turkey leg into your mouth on camera, you \u2014 and not your morally compromised opponent \u2014 might not run as the ideal candidate for Texas. Is it possible that Democrats, not Republicans, blew a winnable election by nominating a candidate not merely unlikable but alien?<\/p>\n<p>Democrats freak out over normal people and imagine freaks as normal people. Consider the hysteria over Maine\u2019s Democrat Senate nominee Graham Platner for posting online about the tipping habits of certain ethnic groups and liberally using the word \u201cretard\u201d on Reddit (Talarico could use this sort of publicity). Some Democrats view Platner\u2019s rawness as a disqualifier. Yet, he leads comfortably in the polls. Talarico, that coached Democrat reliant on talking points that we have witnessed lose a hundred times, strikes his party as the perfect candidate (for Texas, no less!).\u00a0<strong>(RELATED: Weird Democrat Candidates May Save GOP Majorities)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As <em>Time<\/em> noted in its cover story on Platner, \u201cAfter decades of nominating buttoned-up technocrats with glittering r\u00e9sum\u00e9s, many Democrats want candidates with flaws, faded ink, and redemption arcs that resemble their own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not Turkey Leg Talarico.<\/p>\n<p>More than three decades ago, I saw Senator Phil Gramm, sporting an undertaker\u2019s visage, Elmer Fudd\u2019s charisma, and a court jester\u2019s wit, reach not into his own bag of folksy anecdotes and sayings but that of, I think, Jim Hightower, the former commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture and populist progressive. Gramm, ventriloquizing Hightower and others, explained that in Texas: \u201cThere ain\u2019t nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James Talarico, stylistically more Maxwell Frost than Jim Hightower, now seeks Phil Gramm\u2019s old seat by identifying as an armadillo. He might remember the adage regarding the middle of the road.
