S<\/span>uffice it to say, no one will ever mistake President Trump\u2019s ability to respond on point to way-off-base critics.<\/p>\n

Take this latest headline from Fox News: \u201cTrump blasts \u2018treasonous\u2019 munitions reports, says US has \u2018far more than we could ever use.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox reports:<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump declared Thursday that the U.S. has \u201cvirtually unlimited\u201d ammunition and accused those reporting otherwise of being \u201ctreasonous,\u201d pushing back against reports that the war with Iran has sharply depleted stockpiles\u00a0of several critical weapons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people and Media Outlets that keep harping on the fact that we have no ammunition (And they are 100% wrong!), are actually treasonous,\u201d Trump wrote in a social media post. \u201cThey do it because they would rather see the United States LOSE a War that we\u2019re easily WINNING, than see me WIN!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bingo!<\/p>\n

Suffice it to say, to borrow from an old movie line, the president is \u201cmad as hell\u201d and isn\u2019t going to take it anymore.<\/p>\n

One can only ask, can anybody blame him?<\/p>\n

But the problem here is a classic Washington \u201cSwamp\u201d problem.\u00a0(RELATED: The Populists Were Not Always Wrong)<\/strong><\/p>\n

It works this way.<\/p>\n

A resident \u2014 any president, pick one \u2014 sets a policy and then goes about the business of implementing said policy.<\/p>\n

And then.<\/p>\n

And then some bureaucrat deep inside the federal bureaucracy, who disagrees with the policy or dislikes the incumbent president (or both!), goes about quietly figuring out how to sabotage that policy. And then does what he or she can to do just that \u2014 sabotage the policy and the president. Anonymously, but of course.<\/p>\n

This kind of thing has happened over and over again to previous presidents. Pick a policy \u2014 any policy. A partial list from over the years: Vietnam, Cuba, NATO, Nicaragua, or Panama. And on goes the list of this or that policy that has drawn Inside the Beltway critics from somewhere in the bureaucracy.<\/p>\n

Then there are the presidents involved. In my lifetime (not to date myself!), but that includes presidents with names like Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and\u2026 well, this is just part of the bipartisan presidential list that keeps on going right up to Trump.<\/p>\n

The problem with this kind of political game-playing is that it never does anything other than work against the policy under discussion. Not to mention any Americans actually on the ground somewhere to act on the policy.<\/p>\n

This latest go-round, centering on the amount of ammunition in U.S. government storage supplies, would surely be counted as a sensitive military issue in the middle of the war in Iran. Or, for that matter, any war. And the answer of some anonymous wizard somewhere in the federal bureaucracy is to tell the media, anonymously but of course, that the U.S. has \u201csharply depleted stockpiles\u00a0of several critical weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n

And one wonders why President Trump has instantly called this game-playing \u201ctreasonous\u201d?\u00a0 Which is to say that, as noted, President Trump is right on the money when he says of the anonymous leakers: \u201cThey do it because they would rather see the United States LOSE a War that we\u2019re easily WINNING, than see me WIN!\u201d<\/p>\n
