As the proclamation confirms, \u201cgenocide\u201d applies to anything the DSA doesn\u2019t like. The real whopper is the claim that DSA \u201chas a long history of solidarity with the Cuban people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationallogisticspost.com\/?p=1609\">One Night Only : The Covid Lockdown Movie Nobody Meant to Make<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The DSA proclamation came on August 13, birthday of Fidel Castro. The white Stalinist dictator, one generation out of Spain, ruled Cuba from 1959 to 2008, nearly five decades. Like all Communists, Castro was an economic crackpot who drove Cuba into abject poverty. In 1962, the Castro dictatorship launched\u00a0food rationing, which continues into current times. In a totalitarian state, the people get only what the dictatorship wants them to have, and that in meager quantities.<\/p>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>True solidarity with the people of Cuba would demand their liberation from the current regime.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Castro dictatorship seized property and allowed no political opposition. Castro jailed dissenters who became known as\u00a0<em>plantados<\/em>. One of them, Eusebio Pe\u00f1alver, became the\u00a0longest serving black political prisoner\u00a0in modern history.<\/p>\n<p>Pe\u00f1alver served time on the\u00a0<em>Isla de Pinos<\/em>, which in 1978 the Castro regime renamed,\u00a0<em>Isla de la Juventud<\/em>. Cubans call it the\u00a0<em>Isla de la Esclavitud<\/em>, the \u201cIsland of Slavery.\u201d That applies to all of Cuba, where the totalitarian government controls everything.<\/p>\n<p>Castro also sent male homosexuals into forced labor camps. Cuban cinematographer Nestor Almendros (<em>Kramer vs. Kramer<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Sophie\u2019s Choice<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Days of Heaven<\/em>)\u00a0documented that campaign in\u00a0<em>Improper Conduct<\/em>. Armando Valladares chronicled Castro\u2019s torture of political prisoners in\u00a0<em>Against All Hope<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The struggles of the Cuban artists and intellectuals emerge in Heberto Padilla\u2019s\u00a0<em>Heroes Are Grazing in My Garden<\/em>. Paul Hollander\u2019s\u00a0<em>Political Pilgrims<\/em>\u00a0documented glowing accounts of the Cuban regime by foreign intellectuals. When he returned from combat in Africa, Castro staged a show trial and executed the general. See\u00a0<em>8A<\/em>, by Cuban filmmaker Orlando Jimenez Leal.<\/p>\n<p>Fidel Castro\u2019s Communist regime was so oppressive that, at first opportunity, thousands of Cubans fled in anything that would float. Many perished at sea but those who succeeded, like all those who fled the regime, can bear witness to the deprivations inflicted by the Communist dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Socialists of America claim \u201cFidel was an organizer, a fighter, and endures as a stalwart symbol of anti-imperialist struggle and self-determination for the Global South.\u201d For all but the willfully blind, DSA solidarity is with this Sado-Stalinist and his Communist successors. If willful ignorance in support of tyranny is not depravity, it\u2019s hard to know what to call it.<\/p>\n<p>True solidarity with the people of Cuba would demand their liberation from the current regime. Marco Rubio recognizes the \u201cunimaginable hardships\u201d of the Cuban people.
