O<\/span>ne hardly has to be a political junkie to know that midterm elections rarely turn out well for the party that holds the White House. It has happened only once this century, when the Republicans picked up 8 House seats and one Senate seat during the first midterm election of George W. Bush\u2019s presidency. There are two factors at play this year, however, which may allow the GOP to duplicate that feat. First, the leader of the Republican Party has built his political career on defying history. Second, the Democrats have recruited a very large number of truly weird candidates\u2014even more than usual. The corporate \u201cnews\u201d media has ignored their oddities but the word is getting out.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the \u2018New York Post\u2019 reports that the Democrat nominee for the 15th District of Texas starred in his own bizarre music video where he played a pervert.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

The most prominent exemplar of these strange Democrats is Texas Senate nominee James Talarico. The Lone Star Liberty PAC released a new ad featuring videos of Talarico saying things that all but guarantee his loss in November regardless of which Republican he faces. For example, when asked to name something he loves other than friends or family he answered \u201cI love the trans children.\u201d He is also shown saying, \u201cThere are many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six.\u201d Speaking about immigration policy he says, \u201cOur southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a giant welcome mat out front.\u201d Talarico is now posing as a populist, but it\u2019s unlikely that this masquerade will fool many Texans.<\/p>\n

Another faux populist nominated by the Democrats is Graham Platner, who hopes to unseat longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins in Maine. Like Talarico, however, Platner is hoping the voters will overlook liabilities like his Nazi tattoo and highly offensive online comments, including posts \u201cinsulting the U.S. Army, mocking a Purple Heart recipient, using slurs and expressing support for political violence.\u201d And it gets worse, including posts about crude acts in portable toilets and obscene bathroom graffiti. This creepy stuff doesn\u2019t fit very well with the \u201ceveryman\u201d image he has attempted to cultivate. When he was asked about this growing catalogue of controversial statements and behavior, Platner told The Advocate<\/em>,<\/p>\n

People are digging through my entire life because I, frankly, am running for Senate on an anti-establishment platform \u2026 I have not been living a life under the assumption that I was going to run for Senate someday. I\u2019ve lived a normal life, fighting in wars, working jobs, and being online like anyone else. We need a politics that reflects that normal people make mistakes and grow. Most people in this country have a lot more in common with each other than they do with the people in power. If we want a politics for regular people, we have to accept that regular people evolve.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It isn\u2019t clear that Platner is \u201cnormal\u201d or that he is a \u201cregular\u201d person. Yet, he and Talarico are by no means the worst of the Democrats running in this year\u2019s midterms. As the Washington Free Beacon<\/em> reports, Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has made his fervent opposition to Israel a cornerstone of his campaign. Inevitably, that includes denouncing U.S. involvement in Iran: \u201cYou know what benefits [from the war]? It benefits Israel, who has captured too many of our politicians through AIPAC contributions.\u201d The Free Beacon<\/em> continues, \u201cThe Senate candidate was a featured speaker during an online progressive rally Saturday night that also included popular streamer Hasan Piker, who has said the United States \u2018deserved 9\/11.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Abdul El-Sayed is, of course, just one of many Democrats running anti-Semitic campaigns this year. According to a report in the Washington Post<\/em>, \u201cA Democratic House candidate in Texas who said she wanted to turn a local immigrant detention center into a facility to imprison and castrate \u201cAmerican Zionists\u201d has Democrats scrambling.\u201d Maureen Galindo, a sex therapist and activist, finished first among four in the March Democratic primary for the 35th Congressional District. Predictably, the Democrats insisted that Galindo is being financed by the Lead Left PAC, which is allegedly funded by the Republican Party. Galindo said she had \u201czero idea about the PAC.\u201d She subsequently issued a press release in which she offered the following claims:<\/p>\n

She never said \u2018internment camps\u2019; that was a very unethical journalist desperate to take her down through a screenshottable article title \u2026 She does want Karnes ICE facility to be turned into a prison for the billionaire zionists who have profited off genocidal prison state materials and trafficking. Prosecution has nothing to do with religion \u2026 It\u2019s also true she wants a whole department and TV channel of exposing pedophiles and yes, sending them for castration at Karnes Prison, then moved to prisons with violent criminals.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Well, that should set the minds of the voters at ease. Meanwhile, the New York Post<\/em> reports that the Democrat nominee for the 15th District of Texas starred in his own bizarre music video where he played a pervert: \u201cTejano singer Bobby Pulido won the Democratic primary earlier this month in the state\u2019s 15th Congressional District as the moderate in the race who has taken nearly $1 million in contributions from the Blue Dog Coalition and focused on voters\u2019 economic concerns, border security and local issues.\u201d This character is a two-time Latin Grammy winner, and presumably planned on exploiting his notoriety in this heavily Hispanic district to defeat Republican incumbent Monica De La Cruz. It\u2019s unlikely that this video helped.<\/p>\n

There has been a lot of speculation concerning President Trump\u2019s oddly insouciant attitude about the upcoming midterms. He really doesn\u2019t seem very worried about them. He certainly knows that history doesn\u2019t favor the Republicans, even with the recent redistricting wins. Perhaps he is simply resigned to defeat, but it\u2019s more likely that he doesn\u2019t think the normal rules apply to the GOP as long as he is its leader. Or maybe James Blair, the White House deputy chief of staff who is now running the GOP\u2019s political operation for the midterms, is simply keeping the President apprised of the dismal quality of the Democrat candidates they face in November.<\/p>\n
