Socialist Candidate Can\u2019t Give CNN a Straight Answer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Mediaite\u00a0story reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDo you still believe that Thanksgiving should be canceled?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It seemed like an easy enough question from CNN\u2019sKaitlan Collins\u00a0to answer. But not for\u00a0Francesca Hong(D).<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the democratic socialist candidate \u2014 who is running for governor in Wisconsin \u2014 gave a rambling 46-second response on Monday night, touching on her professional restaurant experience, her claim that Thanksgiving is \u201cincredibly painful\u201d for many Americans, and her views on the holiday can \u201cevolve.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Got that? The holiday that celebrates Americans of the day coming together \u2014 Pilgrims on the one hand and Native Americans on the other \u2014 is so controversial that its very existence is an issue in a Democrat election for a nominee to be the next governor of Wisconsin. A candidate who claims the holiday celebrating peace and making thanks for that peace is \u201cincredibly painful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the candidates should study up on the history of the state they wish to govern.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia records this of early Wisconsin history:\u00a0\u201cThe first known inhabitants of what is now Wisconsin were\u00a0Paleo-Indians, who first arrived in the region in about 10,000 BC at the end of the\u00a0Ice Age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over at\u00a0<i>The Wisconsin Examiner<\/i> is this bit of Wisconsin history:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Wisconsin\u2019s first official observance of Thanksgiving was in 1830, when it was still part of the Michigan Territory. Gov. Lewis Cass declared that a day of Thanksgiving be observed on Nov. 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u201cI recommend to the inhabitants of the Territory that, refraining from all labor, inconsistent with the duties and solemnity of the day, they repair to their respective houses of public worship,\u201d he proclaimed, \u201cand unite in suitable acknowledgements to the \u2018Giver of every good gift.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That said and done, Wisconsin\u2019s leaders joined the parade of states who had made a point of celebrating what had already become a national\u00a0 American holiday. A holiday that picked up considerable steam as time moved. During that time, with the invention of television, Americans well developed the now-national celebration that, among other things, has Americans settling in to watch the televised Macy\u2019s parade as the family turkey cooks.<\/p>\n<p>This being the case, there is reason to understand headlines like this one that is focused on Wisconsin\u2019s Democrat Assemblywoman Francesca Hong\u2019s loss in the recent Wisconsin Democrat primary.\u00a0<strong>(RELATED: Poor Francesca Hong, a Victim of Milwaukee\u2019s Missing Election Results)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationallogisticspost.com\/?p=1445\">Circling Like Vultures: California Leads New Attack on Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over at the\u00a0HuffPost\u00a0is this headline: \u201cHow Thanksgiving ended Francesca Hong\u2019s hopes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The story reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s the <span>easy\u00a0punchline<\/span>\u00a0after Assemblywoman Francesca Hong\u2019s loss in Tuesday\u2019s Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it appears Thanksgiving may be saved this year,\u201d cracked Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican candidate for governor, at a campaign stop on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026But while invocations of the country\u2019s favorite reason to eat turkey and watch football are an easy way to mock Hong, a democratic socialist who came within 3,500 votes of defeating Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, her failure to explain old social media posts suggesting she wanted to cancel the holiday also played a not-insignificant role in her downfall.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Long story short, the message for politicians running for office is as simple as it is basic. Which is to say, millions of Americans look at various individual American holidays, and perhaps the collective of those holidays, as close to sacred.<\/p>\n<p>They are distinctly individual, with a boatload of tradition accompanying them. While some \u2014 Christmas or Easter, for example \u2014 may be celebrated globally, others, Thanksgiving notably, are purely and uniquely American. With a long history of decidedly American ways to celebrate them.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of Thanksgiving, as noted, that specific last Thursday in November involves turkey, a televised Macy\u2019s parade and the inevitable televised football game (or games!) that follow.<\/p>\n<p>Which should send the obvious message to any aspiring politician. Namely, don\u2019t mess with any of this. Let the country celebrate in peace, surrounded by family, friends, turkey and the inevitable alcoholic beverage.<\/p>\n<p>Quite obviously, Wisconsin\u2019s aspiring Democratic gubernatorial candidate \u2014 Assemblywoman Francesca Hong \u2014 didn\u2019t get this message. And, with all the predictability of the sun rising in the morning, Hong essentially targeted herself for all kinds of negative headlines as a result of her comments on Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p>Will Hong have a political career after this going down the road? Who knows?
