F<\/span>or a child of the 1980s, it is undoubtedly a peculiar experience to witness the seemingly unstoppable decline of Germany into the lower ranks of developed nations. What memories do the events surrounding the invasion of the Spanish enclaves Ceuta and Melilla evoke these days? The loss of control in 2015 and its serious consequences for our society are becoming tangible again. Germany\u2019s cities have not been the same since those years \u2014 German citizens are paying an enormous price for the ideological-socialist delusion that has embedded itself in all parties beyond the firewall, in their organizations, and in the media.<\/p>\n

It therefore comes as little surprise that, amid this atmosphere of loss of control, the head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus M\u00fcller, declares:<\/p>\n

\u201cElectricity supply is largely secured, but \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes, a very big \u201cbut.\u201d If supply is ever not secured, electricity will have to be allocated \u2014 in plain language: the state will begin rationing electricity.<\/p>\n

For politics, the self-created electricity crisis represents a blessing: managing scarcity is the core business of socialists.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

How was it again? The energy transition was supposed to cost us no more than a scoop of ice cream per month. No one will ever be able to seriously quantify the actual economic costs of this fiasco. Added to this is the fact that the loss of confidence among investors and political actors in the systemic stability of the Federal Republic weighs at least as heavily as the direct economic damage.<\/p>\n

Politics, after all, does not follow the old saying: once your reputation is ruined, you can live without restraint. In real life, we find ourselves caught in a pincer movement of insecure energy supply and ever-rising energy costs. The reputation is ruined \u2014 only the beneficiaries of this deliberate destruction of Germany\u2019s energy infrastructure continue to live without restraint.<\/p>\n

The fact is that Germans are now paying the price for a centrally planned energy policy distorted by permanent subsidies. Unreliable electricity from intermittent sources and the illusion of renewable energy being available at all times have destroyed any form of serious energy strategy.<\/p>\n

Renewables do not deliver energy when it is needed, but when nature allows it: when the wind blows and the sun shines. Yet precisely at the decisive moments, during periods of high demand and peak load situations, there is a lack of reliable, dispatchable power.<\/p>\n

This is not serious energy policy. It is an ideological experiment conducted on a living society: green, socialist, and destructive to prosperity.<\/p>\n

We are facing a collapse of unimaginable proportions if what Klaus M\u00fcller has been preparing for at least two years proves true: the forced rationing of electricity to consumers in the name of grid stability.<\/p>\n

The situation is precarious. As colleagues from Apollo News have reported, the Federal Network Agency has already been preparing for two years for a genuine nightmare scenario involving electricity shortages lasting several days or even weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecurity Platform Electricity\u201d is the internal working title \u2014 a system connecting grid operators and authorities and providing timely information on necessary shutdowns in the event that electricity demand exceeds available supply.<\/p>\n

The possible targets of shutdowns include energy-intensive industry, large-scale consumers \u2014 and, one can fear, ultimately also electric vehicles, which may only be charged to a limited extent.<\/p>\n

It is the irony of our time: to cut off electricity from the very electric car drivers whom politicians elevated to saviors of the world, supposed climate protectors, and mobile individualists of the green movement when things become serious.<\/p>\n

Centrally planned, ideological politics continues to write the strangest and most cynical stories. A little Schadenfreude should be granted to those who will have to pay the bill for this most foolish social experiment on German soil since the decay of the East German ruling clique.<\/p>\n

Upon request, a spokesperson for the Federal Network Agency explained that the German electricity grid remains one of the most stable in the world. A small tip for the press department: exaggerations bordering on megalomania are, at best, likely to create additional suspicion.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Federal Network Agency has already confirmed a grid reserve requirement of 7,400 megawatts for the coming winter \u2014 a dramatic figure that corresponds exactly to the capacity of fossil-fuel reserve power plants that must remain permanently available to compensate for the unreliability of a grid dependent on wind and solar power.<\/p>\n

It is effectively an insurance policy against a system whose inherent weaknesses are visible like wounds on its surface. The bill for these recurring interventions will, of course, be paid by consumers.<\/p>\n

Those very consumers may face unpleasant surprises in the future. To save electricity, individual consumers will have to be temporarily disconnected from the grid \u2014 that is now the simple reality.<\/p>\n

In an emergency, electricity must be allocated \u2014 a dream for all central planners and nostalgists of the former East German system who, after years of dismantling Germany\u2019s energy infrastructure, finally regain a lever of power in their hands. Everything is reminiscent of the GDR strategy \u201cGrid in Danger\u201d \u2014 the cascading shutdown of consumers when electricity became scarce. This is the level we are approaching.<\/p>\n

What the reserve capacity needed to stabilize the world\u2019s most foolish energy policy actually costs is demonstrated by the figures from the recently adopted gas power plant law. Eleven gigawatts of controllable capacity are to be added by 2031 \u2014 as a safety net against periods of low wind and solar output.<\/p>\n

Subsidy costs of up to three billion euros in 2031 alone, followed by almost another two billion euros every year thereafter, will likely be unavoidable. And now comes the great surprise: These costs will be paid by electricity customers through an additional levy.<\/p>\n

This political vandalism must probably be interpreted as deliberate destruction.<\/p>\n

The American economist Robert Higgs described this phenomenon in a compelling theory. According to his observation, states and bureaucracies use crises to simultaneously build up crisis-management infrastructures.<\/p>\n

Think of Basel III and the European Banking Union after the sovereign debt crisis a decade and a half ago, or the American Patriot Act \u2014 that surveillance infrastructure created after the attacks in New York a quarter of a century ago and never rolled back.<\/p>\n

Illiberal political structures that undermine the rights and interests of citizens must be dismantled. Our goal should be to restore social cohesion by reestablishing civic sovereignty. The bureaucratic machinery and extraordinary powers created by politicians obsessed with control during past crises have outlived their purpose. Those emergency measures should be swept away, along with the mindset that produced them.<\/p>\n

A serious, economically oriented policy approach would find it easy to extend coal-fired power generation, return to nuclear energy, begin fracking, and develop a plan to return to the negotiating table with the Russians.<\/p>\n

We need reliable, dispatchable energy \u2014 regardless of where it comes from. This would create new strategic options and make a return to a market-oriented design in energy policy possible.<\/p>\n

Yet we live in a Higgsian dystopia. For politics, the self-created electricity crisis represents a blessing: managing scarcity is the core business of socialists.<\/p>\n

For those who have never been able to understand the principles of freedom, civilization, and a sovereign citizenry, this is the best of all worlds.<\/p>\n
