If they knew, surely they would be revolted by the way so many Democrats — particularly those affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) — have embraced the anti-Israel narrative of the war Hamas began that day. Indeed, it is fair to say that much of the DSA’s rhetoric on this topic is indistinguishable from Hamas propaganda.

Read more The Spectator P.M. And what sort of “resistance” by Hamas did the DSA mob declare “justified” on that day? We know that the terrorists killed nearly 1,200 people (including more than 350 Israeli security personnel) and kidnapped more than 300 others. More than 300 of those killed were attending the Nova music festival, while hundreds of others were massacred in kibbutz communities, the largest such atrocities occurring at Be’eri, Alumim, Kfar Aza and Nir Oz. The victims of Hamas on 10/7 included 46 Americans killed and another 12 Americans taken hostage. (RELATED: New Report: Hamas, Iran, and Hezbollah Plotted for Years to Destroy Israel on October 7)

This was “the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” as then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken called it on the one-year-anniversary of the Hamas attack, in a statement that emphasized the Biden administration’s position. “On this painful anniversary, the United States stands with Israel as it defends itself against terrorism,” the statement from Blinken declared, adding: “The international community … must condemn Iran’s support for Hamas and other terrorist groups in the region that are responsible for so much death, destruction, and instability.”

In 2026, it seems incredible that a Democratic administration could have been so forthrightly pro-Israel, specifically blaming Iran for sponsoring Hamas. DSA-backed candidates spewing anti-Israel rhetoric have won a string of Democratic congressional primaries this year, and very few Democrats have supported President Trump’s military effort against Iran. A common tactic in intra-party struggles now is for left-wing candidates to claim that their Democratic primary opponents are complicit in “genocide” for supporting Israel. (RELATED: It’s Good v. Evil. It’s Always Been Good v. Evil.)

Such was the case when Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens, currently seeking a Senate seat, was one of 98 House Democrats to vote against an amendment to H.R. 8595 that would have blocked all U.S. funding for Israel. Her primary opponent, Abdul El-Sayed, issued a statement:

Congresswoman Stevens has previously voted to give Israel tens of billions of dollars in military aid and weapons sales while the continue an ongoing genocide in Gaza and expansion into Southern Lebanon.

Among other things, the statement from El-Sayed’s campaign portrayed her as a mercenary agent of “the pro-Israel lobby,” accusing supporters of Israel of trying to “buy this seat” in the Senate. It would be more accurate, perhaps, to say that the reported $30 million spent in Michigan by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is aimed at stopping El-Sayed in the primary, without regard to who wins this fall’s general election. Republican Mike Rogers is unopposed in the GOP primary and has Trump’s endorsement plus more campaign cash-on-hand than either Stevens or El-Sayed.

From a strictly partisan standpoint, the ugly brawl in the Michigan Democratic primary is nothing but good news for Republicans, and that could also be viewed as good news for Israel, since Rogers has a staunchly pro-Israel record. If Stevens wins the August 4 Democratic primary, the general election will be between two friends of Israel, and perhaps enough disgruntled left-wing supporters of El-Sayed will stay home in November to give Rogers a slight edge in the purple “swing” state. Regardless of who wins the Michigan Senate seat, however, AIPAC was obviously not willing to take a chance that the Democratic nomination might go to El-Sayed, who accuses Israel of “genocide” and other “crimes against humanity.”

AIPAC has also spent money in Republican primaries, notably to defeat Rep. Thomas Massie in Kentucky, but there are so many anti-Israel Democrats now that, in most deep-blue congressional districts, no amount of AIPAC donations can prevent the election of candidates whose rhetoric echoes Hamas propaganda. Such was the case last month, when two DSA-backed candidates — Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez — won congressional primaries in New York.

Valdez, who got 56 percent of the vote in a three-way race to replace retiring Rep. Nydia Velázquez in the 7th District, made a point of declaring during a debate that she had “been in the streets” protesting against Israel’s war in Gaza and “calling for an end to U.S. complicity in that genocide.” Valdez also pointed out she is on record calling for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Because the district is overwhelmingly Democratic (Kamala Harris got 72 percent of the vote there in 2024), Valdez’s primary victory is tantamount to election. (RELATED: A Cancer Within Diaspora Communities)

The same is true of the 13th District, where Chevalier scored a stunning upset in the Democratic primary by defeating Rep. Adriano Espaillat, the incumbent chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Chevalier is even more vehemently anti-Israel than Valdez, as the New York Post has reported she attended the previously mentioned rally the day after 10/7:

The 32-year-old radical with a twisted history of bashing Israel joined a hateful Times Square mob on Oct. 8, 2023, that torched the Israeli flag and flashed swastikas after hundreds of Jews were slaughtered by Islamic terrorists in a surprise attack on the Jewish state. …

Chevalier was caught in previously published photos and videos rallying alongside the extremist crowd. …

Read more Help! This kind of extremism is not limited to New York, as voters in Colorado’s 1st District dumped 15-term Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette in the June 30 primary, choosing DSA-backed newcomer Melat Kiros instead:

In her victory speech, [Kiros] said one of her goals is to ‘end the genocide in Palestine. …

A number of Jewish leaders and groups in Colorado voiced concerns about Kiros, who drew criticism after calling Hamas’s devastating October 7, 2023, invasion of southern Israel “inevitable” and declining to refer to a deadly June 2025 firebombing in Boulder targeting activists for Israeli hostages held in Gaza as an antisemitic attack.

Kiros made her sharp criticism of Israel and its relationship with the United States a central plank of her campaign. Her platform includes a complete arms embargo on Israel and the end of military subsidies to the Jewish state.

The refusal by Kiros to say that the Boulder firebomb attack by Mohamed Soliman was motivated by anti-Semitism highlights a common tactic of Israel’s enemies in the Democratic Party, who insist that they are merely “anti-Zionist” rather than anti-Jewish. This is a distinction without a difference as far as the victims of Hamas terrorism are concerned, and some Democrats are not deceived by such word games. (RELATED: Get Rid of Habiba Soliman)

“I’m tired of being told that, to be a progressive, I now must swear allegiance to crazy ideas,” Van Jones lamented Saturday. “Supporting Hamas is not progressive. … What does universal healthcare have to do with Hamas?”

Similarly, liberal comedian Bill Maher in an ABC News interview decried how the Democratic Party “is being taken over now. … When we’re cheering for the intifada, I’m out.”

Most of us senior citizens old enough to remember the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War are likewise “out” on the anti-Israel turn in the Democratic Party. Republican elders have been troubled by a similar anti-Israel trend among some younger conservatives, who are understandably averse to a repeat of the so-called “forever wars” in Iraq and Afghanistan that began after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. However, for the time being at least, it is Democrats who are at clearest risk of becoming the pro-Hamas party in America.

How many voters who will go to the polls in the November midterms are aware of exactly what Hamas did to their Israeli victims on October 7, 2023? Do they know, for example, that the terrorists used the victims’ own cell phones to live-stream their murders, ensuring that these atrocities would be viewed by friends and families of the victims? A user of the X social-media platform (formerly known as Twitter) recounted the video of one such incident she saw when “the platforms hadn’t yet caught up with flagging and blocking them for violence and gore violations.”

You probably don’t want to read the full description of that horrific brutality, for the same reason you don’t want to know the details of what is euphemistically called “gender-based violence” suffered by 10/7 victims. Rape, torture, cold-blooded murder — this is what was being defended, justified, and endorsed by Darializa Avila Chevalier and her comrades who attended that “Globalize the Intifada” rally the day after the 10/7 attacks.

Democrats are now at a crossroads, and if they choose to side with Hamas terrorists, it will have consequences far beyond this November’s midterm elections.
